I'm a 43 year old woman. I have been working out with free weights for about 10 years. I weigh 130 and I'm 5'3" with a petite frame. I look in shape and pretty good for 43. I am "ruler" shaped with small hips. I tend to gain weight and muscle size in my legs easily. I currently lift (I would say on an intermediate level) five days per week, two body parts a day for about 45 min total. I also do the cross trainer, stairmaster or bike for about 45 min 6 days per week. I cannot seem to get rid of the dents (cellulite) on the back of my legs and my butt! The only time I got close was when I quit working out a few years ago and went down to about 118lbs. I do all the basic leg exercises: squats, lunges, deadlifts, leg press, cable kick-backs etc. It lately has made my butt more like a bubble butt, still no change in my appearance. So, ladies, what can I do ???? I took some Clen last year and that helped. Is it diet? more cardio? pre-menopause? Now I'm taking a look at Proviron or some other anti-e along with some ephedra. HELP!

Hi - I have the same body type - thin through the hips, and weight gain tends to target my legs. You'll hate this - but I've read a lot about cellulite, and guess what? The biggest factor in whether you'll have it or not is genetic. It's not based on the fact that you aren't thin enough - haven't you seen models on the style channel walking down the runway with cottage cheese on the backs of their legs? Even the thinnest girls get it. It's unfortunately REALLY hard to combat. Not the answer you wanted, but it's true. Even lipo won't kill it.... it's like a disease. I know this didn't help, or give you a suggestion - but just wanted to let you know it isn't something your doing wrong, it's just something that's passed down from the females in your family!

Unfortunately, Gypsy is right. While your body is pre-disposed to cellulite due to genetics, you can overcome it, to some extent. From your post, it sounds like you have a very consistent regime of cardio/weights, so you should be of good health/cardiovascular fitness. Cellulite will usually go away with dramatically low BF. This is, unfortunately, not healthy for women. We were built to carry a moderate amount of BF, so it is very hard to drop very low....4-8%. You can look into Endotherapy treatments at some of the higher-end salons. They can decrease the look of cellulite, but the sessions are long and very expensive. But, don't despair, all women are plagued with the same battle! ![]()

As a personal trainer, my clients ask me about cellulite all the time. I did some research and gathered some facts. Here is a post from my blog: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, for the Fun 5 on Friday!, I put together 5 fun facts about cellulite. Then at the bottom, I give you the only treatment that has been proven and is recommended by the medical field. Fun 5 on Friday!! 1. Cellulite is fat that is close to the skin causing a dimpled appearance. The prevailing medical opinion is that cellulite is a normal condition for some women. 2. Cellulite mainly occurs in women, although some men can get it. This is partially do to a woman’s anatomy. Men and women both have fibrous bands of tissue (septa) that keep the fat cells in the skin in place. Men’s septa runs diagonally; women’s septa runs vertically which can then allow the fat closer to the skin causing a dimpling effect which we call cellulite. There are numerous factors that affect cellulite including genetics, hormones, lifestyle, and anatomy. 3. Although weight gain can make cellulite more noticeable, it can occur in lean individuals as well. Cellulite has more to do with your skin anatomy then it does with your body fat percentage. If you are overweight, losing weight will most likely reduce the appearance of your cellulite although it won’t completely rid you of it. 4. There is no known effective treatment for cellulite. Some treatments may have temporary benefits. Other well-known treatments, such as liposuction, have no affect on cellulite. (Liposuction targets deep fat, not subcutaneous fat like cellulite.) 5. Here is what the Mayo Clinic website had to say about preventing cellulite: “There is no way to prevent getting cellulite. Keeping off excess pounds and strengthening your muscles through regular exercise, however, can go a long way toward maintaining your skin tone and texture.” Just in case you didn’t catch that last part…“Keeping off excess pounds and strengthening your muscles through regular exercise, however, can go a long way toward maintaining your skin tone and texture.” Consistent, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle turn how to be the best treatments for cellulite! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know this isn't what a lot of women want to hear, but it's the facts. Cellulite is actually a somewhat normal occurrence for women and is affected by a lot of factors we can't control like genetics. There isn't any 'ultimate' cure for cellulite. Although you can take steps, as it sounds like you already are, to reduce it. Good luck!!! Bobbi http://www.funfitchicks.com

Cellulite, however, is not a symptom of being overweight. Average-sized and even underweight individuals can have cellulite. The exact cause of it is not known, unfortunately. There are some theories that suggest that it could be diet-related, and that eating foods high in trans fats, and foods like pasta and white bread products can cause cellulite to appear. As you would expect, there are many so-called remedies on the market that claim to reduce or eliminate altogether. Lotions, gels, and even pills are sold en masse by cosmetics companies to consumers every year. The fact is, though, that there is no real proof that any of these “remedies” do anything to remove cellulite. Even liposuction, which is the surgical removal of fat from the body, cannot combat cellulite! There are some types of massage that might help to reduce the appearance of cellulite temporarily. Because it is a subcutaneous fat, meaning it is located just under the skin, it has no blood vessels. Massage often helps to improve circulation just under the skin, thus smoothing out the skin’s surface. This temporarily reduces the appearance of cellulite, but does not get rid of it. What seems to help the battle with cellulite is to follow a generally healthy lifestyle. Eat a well-balanced diet, drink a lot of water every day, and exercise regularly. Even though you can’t fight Mother Nature, you can give her a really hard time, and you might find that the cellulite that has plagued you will reduce in appearance, and even go away to some degree!

If you have a cellulite problem then you know how hard it can be to get rid of it. It seems those stubborn dimples just won't go away. Well, here are 8 tips to help in reducing cellulite. 1. Increase the flow of blood through problem areas. This can be accomplished by applying cellulite cream or lotion to the areas you want to work on. Also, skin brushing will provide additional help to promote increased blood flow, which aids in the battle against cellulite. 2. Drink water. Water helps to assure that your body's cells are hydrated and functioning properly. It strengthens them and helps fight off the fat cells that form cellulite. 3. Build tissue connectors. By giving your body the right amount of vitamins and nutrients it needs, you can build up and increase the growth of connective tissues that help prevent fat from pushing through to the surface. 4. Prevent cell breakdown. Damage to your skin from things like being out in the sun too long can easily cause cells to become damaged and deteriorated. Use products that help in preventing this from occurring. 5. Build more cells. Giving your body the "supplies" so to speak that it needs to maintain and build healthy cells, will lead to stronger skin and likelihood of eliminating a cellulite problem. 6. Eliminate those damaging free - radicals. Free-radicals are your skin's worst enemy. They destroy skin tissue which in turn creates even more cellulite problems. Things like smoking, alcohol, poor eating habits, and too much sun will all result in doing damage to your skin. 7. Remove dead skin. The older people get, the more time it takes for our cells to replenish themselves and be removed. Dead skin doesn't protect the body from cellulite. So, the best thing you can do is to remove them by using a skin brush. This will help eliminate the dead ones and promote the formation of new healthy ones. By following these tips and learning more about the root causes of cellulite, you can start to eliminate any cellulite problem.
