Default Diet tips for a newbie

Well I've semi-introduced myself in another thread http://www.women4fitness.com/forums/thread529.html
and now I need some assistance in my diet. I'm the typical snack all day person, and breakfast is a huge hassle. I've been doing better at it, but still not perfect. I'm also attempting to count calories, but I'm the type of person who does good to remember to brush her hair in the morning, so it's kind of a pain in the butt.

Also, is slimfast an okay meal replacement plan? I've a friend who has lost a ton of weight quickly using that stuff.

Hi!
Personally I wouldn't recommend Slim Fast. It's sugary, processed garbage IMO. Snacking all day is a good thing. Eating often keeps your metabolism up. Try for ssmall snacks with a lean protein and a complex carb. Add some good fat sources in there too. Eat foods that are unprocessed and as close to their natural surce as possible. You don't need to count calories as long as you know a ball park figure.
Hope I helped.
Sarah

Snacking all day on?? You should be eating 5-6 small meals a day ... primarily protein with complex carbs. Food is better than meal replacements. You might want a protein shake in the am so you get enough protein. Stay away from sugar, bread, pasta, potatoes and junkfood!! It's all about discipline. How badly do you want to loose the weight? Are you willing to feel hungry and suffer a little? You should check out the South Beach type diets. Good luck!

It is a tough battle, but it does get easier as you get used to it. I also would try to stay away from Slimfast, but, the protein shake after my workout is a great snack! Here are a few more snack ideas, ladies feel free to correct me if I am wrong (still a newbie but this has been working for me so far) Yogurt and fruit or granola is a good snack or cottage cheese and a fruit is another I enjoy. Try celery sticks and peanut butter or whole wheat crackers and a fat free cheese slice, unsalted peanuts and dried cranberries is a yummy one too.
Good luck!
Stay happy,
KK.

I would suggest 5-6 smaller meals and as mentioned each should contain a complex carb and a lean protein. Drinking 2-3 liters a day of water will help to flush out the fat and keep you hydrated. My meal plan looks like this:

Meal 1= post workout(30 min Cardio) 1 serving Oatmeal and 1 scoop protien powder.

Meal 2= 1/2 cup 1% cottage cheese and an orange

Meal 3= 8oz chicken on fish and 1/2 cup brown rice and 1 cup brocolli

Meal 4= Protien shake( 1 scoop protien and 8oz water)1/4 cup Cashews

Meal 5= 6 egg whites over greens and 1/2 cup Brown rice

Meal 6=Post workout( cardio and weights) Protien shake and I am off to bed.

I also Take a multi Vitamine and 3 salmon oil caps and 1 B50 complex.

I park 5 blocks from work and walk to and from and I always take the stairs.

I drink 10-12 glasses of water.

Question Protein Shake?????

I'm very new and rather "dumb" about all of this. Am desperate, however, to get in shape and lose weight. When you all speak of protein shakes, what kind? Where do I get it? Can someone please give me some more examples of complex carbohydrates and lean protein that you are all speaking of? Thanks! I'm desperate!

It is very good topic to discuss about diet tips for a newbie. Some of my diet tips are as below.

* It’s not recommended to do such a diet for more then 3 to 7 days, because they are unbalanced and are not meant to be a permanent way of eating.
* Do your grocery shopping with a diet plan in mind. If you do not have junk foods at home, you cannot eat it.
* Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free beverages.People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger.
* You can often get very hungry at times, try drinking water to help manage hunger pains.
* Eat less. More often. You should try to avoid big and heavy meals. Chop up big meals into smaller meals throughout the day
