Default size vs. weight

Hello all - I'm new to the forum - so please bear with me.

I came across this article today:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion...-pearson_x.htm

..and it makes me think about what many women are doing to attain a great body. I've looked at diet programs, "lifestyle" programs, and various books on weight loss...What irks me is that every program I've looked at has talked about losing a certain amount of pounds - rather than considering inches..

The reality of the fact is, I'm working towards losing fat, not weight, because the reality of it all is that I will always be heavier than what most BMI & height/weight charts will state (I used to be a shot-putter - so I have a lot of muscle mass - with fat surrounding it all.)

This being said:
  • Does anyone have a recommendation of a 'lifestyle' or diet program that considers health and inches rather than weight?
  • Does anyone else have any comments regarding my statement, or the article?
..

I've been working out and modifying my eating habits - mostly following the Readers' Digest book Change One, but I've increased the caloric intake so I'm not starving myself (bad idea - it's not pretty when I'm hungry).

I look forward to knowing your thoughts...

Are you currently working out with a weight training program?

Well here's my story 6 year's ago I walked into my local gym I weighed 115 to 120 lbs but I was in a size 9/10. I started working out with weights and I got a personal trainer. He was brutal made me work hard and heavy. Lifted 3 day's a week, grouping major body parts together (chest, back leg's ect). doing cardio two day's.

A year later I weighed 125lbs but was in a size 5
I loved it so much I became a certified personal trainer myself.
Muscle weighs heavier than fat. The more lean muscle tissue you gain. The more fat will be burned.

I stay off the scale completely! If I hadn't I would have given up as soon as i saw the scale moving up instead of down.

I don't believe in diets I like to educate people in clean eating. Where you can balance foods you enjoy with proper eating techniques. Pay attention to serving sizes. Resturants will give me the same size meal as my husband, I don't need to consume as much as he does. So I will split it into half eating that and taking the other half with me. Drinking water is another key to losing fat. Watch carb intake high carbs will make you retain more fat. Protein will help you burn fat.

Hope this helps you a little! Set a reasonalbe goal and work toward it. Stay focused and make it fun!.............. Glad your here Effie

I'm currently doing weights and cardio.

I don't have a set schedule due to school and work - but I try to do a cardio kickboxing class 2-3X a week, and lift on alternate days. After lifting, I'll jump on the elliptical machine for 20 - 30 minutes as well.

My lifting workout isn't very intense - it's usually a superset concentrating either on legs or arms & I'll do ab work any day I work out.

So far so good - I'm feeling pretty good, and I'm actually off to try a Samaurai swordsmanship class - may prove interesting..

hi, i want to say first i appreciate your board it has been very helpful....i'm just beginning to train.....i have a lot of learning to do.....i want to ask about being fatigued a lot.....i've have two children...a 23month old and an 8month old...i've been working out for about 3 months now....my husband trains me....but between two small children and daily duties i'm so tired it makes it hard to be motivated to train consistantly.....i'm trying to change my daily schedule....like what times i get up and the time i go to bed to see if that would make any difference.....i try to be very cautious of what i eat.....i'm trying to convert to the 6 meals a day instead of the eat while you can plan....because of being pregnant for two years in a row i have extra weight to lose...i've put on a good amount of muscle and the fat is leaving gradually....it just seams like i'm having a hard time losing it....my weight hasn't changed it seems to be consistant.....my body is firming up but hasn't lost any size.....i weigh 169 even though i don't look it....i would prefer not too remain this heavy....do you think i will after losing the bodyfat and do you have any suggestions for being so fatigued.....your input would be much appreciated.....much respect
