ADRENAL FUNCTION (adrenal exhaustion and cortisol production)

Here's a list I've put together of symptoms pertaining to your adrenal function. Take the test and see where you fall!

11. Do you feel emotionally flat or lacking a zest
for living?
12. Do you consume 50 percent of your calories in the
day after 5:00pm and crave carbohydrates in the
evening?
13. Do you feel anxious or nervous?
14. Do you notice a decrease in your sex drive?
15. Do you have trouble getting to sleep or do you
wake in the middle of the night?
16. Do you feel overcommitted in your daily life?


PLAN OF ACTION

Too many people push themselves to exhaustion these days. A person who is adrenally exhausted may cry or tear up more easily, is stressed to the point of memory lapse, feels exhausted, may be emotionally flat, may have gained excess pounds as a result of stress-induced eating, and have slowed down their metabolism such that weight loss is dufficult or impossible to acheive. Gaining an understanding of the role that stress plays on your health and doing something about it can truly change your future health and get you feeling better today.

Based on your score, add the following nutrients to your daily maintenance supplements for adrenal support. Supplement rigimens for adrenal regulation vary according to the stress-related complaint. Here are several different approaches:

1. For scores 15 and higher, and if you are exhausted and have midday fatigue, add:

* Adrenal glandular (new zealand) 200mg, three times a day. (if you notice that you are too awake at night, cut back to twice a day before 4:00pm.) If you avoid animal products, try the herbs listed below. The following herbals may also be combined with the adrenal glandular:

* Holy basil, for anxious feelings: one to two 400mg capsules, two times a day (may cause drowsiness in some people)

* Rhodiola rosea, for stress support and when short term memory is poor: 150-250 mg a day, standardized to 3-5 percent rosavins.

* Moducare, to regulate the negative metabolic effects of stress, including inflamation, alterations in DHEA and cortisol, and cholesterol production: three 20-40mg capsules, two times a day on an empty stomach.

2. For anxiousness from effects of stress, add:

* Relora: 250 mg, three times a day. (if you feel chronically stressed, Relora may well become a maintenance product for you. In rare cases, Relora may initially make you drowsy. If so, take it at night only until this effect wears off. Then begin to take it during the day.)

* Theanine: 100-200 mg, two to three times a day, no need to take theonine and Relora at the same time, one or the other will do.

3. For lack of sleep from effects of stress, add:

* Relora: 250 mg, three times a day.

* 5-HTP, to produce serotonin: 100 mg at bedtime.

* Melatonin: 3-6 mg at bedtime (as your sleep improves, stop taking the melatonin. Next, stop the 5-HTP, and see whether you can cope with stress well with just the use of Relora.)

4. For increased sugar and carbohydrate cravings and night eating syndrome, add:

* Chromium GTF, to get blood sugar under control: 600mcg a day.

* 5-HTP, to build serotonin and decrease cravings: 50-100 mg, three times a day.

* Relora, for normalizing cortisol production: 250 mg, three times a day.

* Other important nutrients include Vitamin C, B complex, and the mineral magnesium, which should be present in adequate quantities in your multiple vitamin and mineral supplement. Many people may require regular adrenal support, especially people who don't want to slow down.
